The Reverend Deacon Stephen R. Shanks serves as convener of the Alabama Chapter of the Episcopal Peace Fellowship (EPF), nonviolence training facilitator for EPF and the Fellowship of Reconciliation, and is on the National EPF Advisory Committee for Nonviolence Training. While engaged in leadership, training, and advocacy for various ministries over the last 25 years including SANE and The Freeze (grassroots peace and nuclear disarmament), HIV/AIDS, School of the Americas Watch, prison, and hospice (end-of-life care) chaplaincy, his activities have always remained closely linked to the work of peace, nonviolence, and reconciliation. During this same period he has worked throughout the country as an architectural and structural consultant with a concentration in structures, building envelopes, and pavements, in addition to, transferring new technologies and providing expert services. A native of Corpus Christi, Texas, he currently resides in Pelham with his wife Vickie, and has been assigned to serve parishes in Montevallo and Clanton.
